A Halfpenny London Bride & Her October 2020 Micro Wedding at Blanchville House in Ireland

Ideas

In our penultimate real wedding of 2020, it gives me great pleasure to share the nuptials of Physiotherapist Veronica to John, a Farmer.

This glamorous micro wedding was held at Blanchville House in Kilkenny, Ireland on 20th October 2020. Veronica’s effortlessly glamorous outfit comprised the Iris slip dress and Laura top, by the wonderful Halfpenny London, which she discovered at The White Gallery Boutique in Burren, Co Down.

“We chose Blanchville House as our venue as this is John’s family home where he grew up and where he now runs the family farm.”

“The historic house functions as a Country House Accommodation and has been lovingly restored by John’s parents, Monica and Tim over many years.”

The gorgeous stationery included a painting and illustrations by the bride’s  nephew and the stationery design was by her bridesmaid Brenda.

“Rachel at The White Gallery was so lovely to deal with and made the trips up north for fittings so enjoyable in her beautiful dressing rooms.”

“She also recommended a great dress maker Lora who came to the boutique for fittings and was meticulous making the small adjustments to my dress.”

Veronica’s gorgeous shoes were from our wonderful Little Book Wedding Directory Emmy London. I wore a pair of these very special shoes on my own wedding day and cannot recommend their comfort and craftsmanship more.

“I would definitely recommend a visit to The White Gallery for a look at their modern and unique range.”

“I loved the simplicity of the dress and the luxurious silk Iris slip dress was so comfortable to wear. The Laura drape top with long sleeves was perfect for October weather and being able to remove the top later in the evening allowed for two wedding looks.”

Veronica’s sensational gold and pearl back necklace was by designer A.B Ellie

“We met in Dublin on a night out, introduced through mutual friends and got engaged exactly 3 years later on a weekend away in Co. Clare.”

“We were engaged 18 months before we got married.”

“Our original wedding date was 30th May 2020 but unfortunately due to lockdown in Ireland we had to postpone to October (at that stage thinking COVID would be a distant memory by October).”

“Veronica’s bridesmaids wore rose pink and ruby red lip dresses from The Own Studio, a London based company who were great to deal with.”

“The Own Studio provided amazing postal service to try dresses in different styles and sizes so that we could then order online and dresses made to order.”

“We marked the original date beautifully with a very small family dinner outside on one of the warmest days of the summer and my amazing bridesmaids spoiled us with gifts and video messages from family and friends.”

“October arrived and we had to downsize from our original 180 guests to 50 guests and with just 3 days to go before our wedding downsize further to 25 guests in line with government regulations.”

“Our original plans for a marquee at the house and big band had to be cancelled but were replaced with a beautiful intimate reception in the ballroom at Blanchville House.”

“We couldn’t have imagined that a wedding with just 25 guests could be so much fun and so enjoyable.”

“My advice is go for it and think of it as an opportunity to celebrate your love with your nearest and dearest in a really intimate way.”

“There will be plenty of time in the future to celebrate with all those you would have loved to have had there.”

The couple hired talented photographer Paula McManus to document their day through images.

“We loved Paula’s elegant and romantic style of photography from the first time I looked at her page.”

“Paula was fabulous to deal with on the day, gentle and kind and capturing all the details in such an unobtrusive way. We absolutely love our photos. Would definitely recommend!”

“Chris of B&G Wedding films produced an incredibly beautiful wedding film for us which we absolutely love and will watch forever on repeat! Such talent and was such a pleasure to have film our wedding day.”

“Blanchville House boasts beautifully appointed drawing and dining rooms which were perfect for hosting our drinks reception.”

“The light filled ballroom with original period features made for the perfect setting for our dinner while the gardens and grounds of the house were a beautiful backdrop for our photos.”

“We first saw the work of Tina of Wild Bunch Flowers at a venue open day and fell in love with her beautiful elegant style.”

“After then arranging to meet her and discover what a kind and gorgeous and talented person she was, I was sold!”

Tina was incredible to work with and provided such creative direction and inspiration and was so flexible with all the changes we had to make.”

Her flower cloud creation in the ballroom was just outstanding and created such a wow factor. Tina comes highly recommended.”

“This was the just the second wedding hosted in Blanchville House, 10 years after John’s sister Niamh had her wedding reception here.”

“Blanchville House provides the perfect setting for small group parties, sophisticated hen parties, large family gatherings and would be the ideal venue for a pre-wedding family dinner the night before a wedding providing accommodation for up to 26 people within the grounds.”

“We had beautiful food from Langtons Hotel in Kilkenny – this was co-ordinated by Sean who worked with us to create our own bespoke menu using John’s home farmed beef.”

Sigita from Fern Cakery was a pleasure to deal with and created and styled a ‘duo’ of beautiful tall elegant deconstructed cakes. Tasted as good as they looked – a vanilla bean sponge and lemon curd and a chocolate sponge with salted caramel both with buttercream icing.”

Sigita also made homemade cherry and vanilla flavoured marshmallows as favours for our guests for toasting on the fire outside later in the night.”

In the evening, the couple supplied celicious woodfired pizzas for afters via Steve at Brownstone Pizza.

Words of Wedded Wisdom

“Planning a wedding during a global pandemic is tough but don’t let it stop you enjoying the build up and remember to keep your love for one another at the centre of everything.”

“Make a plan B in terms of numbers and plan for worst case scenario but don’t cut short on all the details you have always wanted. It will be such a special day in the end.”

So gorgeous and effortless – Veronica and John, huge congrats to you both.
