Love on Roller Skates: A Coastal, Retro-Inspired Elopement at Cape Kiwanda

Planning

Cape Kiwanda Elopement

Hannah + Ben met when they were just 15 years old. A superhero-themed costume party started them on their journey to forever, but the fun and crazy cool vibes didn’t stop there! These two are all about adventuring, which is why their original wedding plans had them headed to Iceland. Fast forward to the 2020 pandemic, and they quickly had to switch up their plans. It all worked out better than they dreamed though as they shared vows in a retro-inspired elopement at Cape Kiwanda, surrounded by dried boho flowers and their beloved pup. They even rounded out the day with board games, roller-skating and the hot tub. We’ll let H share more:

After we got engaged, we went back and forth between a big wedding at the camp we met at and an intimate destination wedding somewhere like Alaska/Iceland/Scotland. We ultimately ended up deciding on an intimate wedding in Iceland for June 2020. Fast forward to March 2020 and the Covid pandemic hit. We pretty much instantly canceled our wedding in Iceland because we wanted people to be able to get refunds on travel. After that, we had only a few months to completely replan our elopement, but it ended up being meant to be. At the end of the day, it really wasn’t about our wedding but instead about the beginning of our marriage and I wouldn’t change a thing!

Dawn Jarvis captured the day with beautiful, moody imagery. Ready to see it? Let’s go!

A Muted Color Palette

Since the day centered around boho vibes and retro inspiration, a muted color palette of ivory, rust and blush really set the stage.

Nature Focused and Eco-Friendly

One thing that was important for H + B was to keep their wedding as eco-friendly as possible:

We tried not to use any single-use plastic as decor or things we wouldn’t be able to use again. A lot of our flowers were dried so we kept them in our home for decoration. The rug we got married on sits in our living room now. I love it because we have little reminders of our wedding day all over our home!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

It’s so hard to pick just one moment! I know everyone says this, but it really was such a perfect day. One of my favorites was that we chose to spend the morning together. We enjoyed our breakfast and copied our vows into our books. We split up while we got ready, but it was so calming to get to spend some time before everything started, just the two of us.
