Sarah, a Retail Manager at Volkswagen and Police Officer Simon, tied the knot on 6th July this year, at Donington Park Farmhouse Hotel

“I love all things vintage and rustic. We fell in love with the venue, the rustic charm of the barn and its simplicity was perfect. Our vision was to have a garden theme but indoors, obviously it didn’t go entirely to plan due to covid – 19 so we ended up having to do a lot of the floral decorations ourselves with help from our neighbour Anne and friend Karen but I think we pulled it off.”
“With pretty bunting, fairy lights and flowers from our gardens, our wedding day was simply beautiful.”
“Unfortunately, our florist couldn’t fulfil our original contract of flowers due to our wedding date changes because of the COVID-19 lockdown, so we created our own back drop. We purchased a copper frame from Amazon and wrapped artificial flowers around from Hobby craft.”
“I was surprised how lovely it looked. We also did little bunches of flowers from our garden to put on the end of the chairs.”
The bride wore the beautiful ‘Iris’ heels by Bella Belle.
Sarah wore the very beautiful Laura by Enzoani gown, which she discovered via Charlotte Baker Bridalwear.
“They have a beautiful range of dresses. Rachel was amazing she put me and my bridal team at ease straight away. I had to make a few changes on my order and she was happy to help every time.”
“My dress, it was truly stunning it gave me awesome curves. I felt a million dollars in it – like a 1950’s Hollywood actress.”
“I wore a mid length veil with scallop edging and diamantes – also from Charlotte Baker Bridalwear.”
“Simon and I met at the end of April 2014 in a night club called the Silk kite in Tamworth on a night out with friends. On the 21st January, 2018, Simon proposed to me at San Giovanni’s in Sheepy Magna.”
“He got down on one knee and it was very romantic. He also surprised me with a trip Galway the following day.”
“My mom walked me down the aisle – unfortunately my dad passed away last August from a long-term illness. It was very emotional as you can expect. I walked down the aisle to ‘Never Enough, by Loren Allred. Our exit song was Celine Dion’s ‘Then You Look At Me’.”
“My Favourite part of the day was walking down the aisle and seeing Simon, I was shaking like mad. It was very overwhelming as I couldn’t believe it was happening after all that had been going on with Covid. It’s the best feeling being married to him.”
The couple hired Lichfield wedding photographer Becky Tranter to capture their day.
“There was an instant click with Becky and ourselves. Her enthusiasm and attention to getting to know what we wanted from our photos spoke volumes. I’d highly recommend Becky; she was an absolute rock to us both with helping us find out information about restrictions etc. We can’t thank her enough.”
“One of our bridesmaids, gave me a framed photo for my bouquet of my late dad. So that he could be with me.”
“We were due to have a Cheese tier, however as we couldn’t have a proper reception, our best friend and bridesmaid made us a beautiful vanilla 3-tiered cake with frosting and scattered petals.”
“We created the favours ourselves. We had wild flower bombs wrapped in pretty material and placed in little terracotta pots. We also created jars of rock for the children.”
“We are yet to have our first dance, we are hopefully having a reception in December, but when it happens, we’ll be dancing to ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’, by Elvis.”
Words of Wedded Wisdom
“Our original budget was £13,000, which increased to £18,000 with everything we wanted. However, with the restrictions and having to scale down, I feel we probably saved a few thousand.”
“Remember why you are getting married. It’s not for the big day or party it’s to marry the person you love and want to spend the rest of your life with. In my case my best friend and soul mate.”
“With so much uncertainty with covid and losing our friend/usher Gary to the illness, it really makes you appreciate that time is precious. Grab hold of the moment while you can and enjoy every minute. Weddings go so quick and I think we all forget what’s important sometimes.”
“On reflection I would have probably done my own flowers, I really did surprise myself how well my neighbour and I pulled them off.”
“Finally, plus try to do things yourselves, it gives a great sense of achievement and you can create something more sentimental and personal.”
