A place can add great personal detail to a ring design, so we asked a couple of our artists to create designs inspired by a few cities around the world—specifically, a landmark in each city. For the couple that had their first date at the Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, a couple of ring designs inspired by the enveloping curves of this iconic, Deconstructivist landmark.
Inspired by Boston, these two ring designs capture the angularity, repeating lines, and recognizable blue lighting of the Zakim Bridge.
A Ring that Celebrates Family + Heritage
Claddagh rings and Trinity knots are perennially popular, drawing in elements of an Irish background into a couple’s ring. But inspiration can come from any bit of lineage, from tribal symbols to heraldry. These design sketches draw inspiration from the Tudor Rose, a classic symbol of England.

He told us that she loved Art Deco designs and wanted something unique in rose gold. She’d once saw a ring that surprised her (in a good way!) with marquise gems arranged like the rays of the sun. He asked us to take inspiration from the compass rose to represent her love of travel. And then he told us a bit about his fiancée-to-be: “She is brilliant, compassionate, funny, and loves to travel.”

We spend so much of our time at work. For the person whose work is central to their lives, it can be a source of inspiration for the ring’s details. This couple met while pursuing their advanced degrees in biological sciences, so we added a nod to the DNA double-helix in the classic twisted band.

For a couple whose faith is central to their lives, incorporating religious symbolism in the engagement ring can make the piece more meaningful. For this ring, it was as subtle as a cross tucked under the center setting of the diamond solitaire ring.

Flower-inspired rings are always popular. Why not make one with her favorite flower? For this customer, we designed a ring inspired by the persimmon blossom. The fire opal perfectly evoked the color of the fruit.
