Do you have the guts to take on multiple DIY wedding projects for your big day?? If this is a question you’re asking yourself, you’re gonna love seeing how Britteny + Anthony DIY-ed their hearts out! We’re talking a year of hand-drying flowers people!! That’s commitment! B owns her own macramé business called Sullovin Knots, so their wedding at The Sample McDougald House was full of handmade macrame details. They also brought in nods to A’s French heritage with yummy desserts like macarons and pièce montée. The whole wedding is a feast for the eyes, and B is ready to walk you through all of the DIY goodness. She shares:

From the moment we started our planning I knew the most important thing to us was to have a wedding and venue that reflected us. We wanted ourselves, as well as our guests to have the most memorable night and to have a wedding that was unique. So much work and effort went into making every little detail for our day. I DIY-ED my little fingers off! I love the tropical boho style most people are used to seeing me do, but I really wanted to switch it up for our wedding and showcase a different style and theme- but of course have some macramé, boho feels tied in.

Are you ready to see the day as Colleen San Clemente captured it? Let’s go!

Beachy Vibes + Lots of Color

B + A wanted a lot of rich color and texture in their wedding design. They chose to include macramé, velvet, lace and dried foliage in every detail. We are totally loving B’s pink velvet Chinese Laundry shoes and House of Devam ring!

A Year of Dried Flowers

Can you believe B hand-dried every single flower for the day?? Talk about major DIY wedding goals! She shares:

Out of all the details, the one I am most proud of are the florals! I dried my own florals for a whole year! Our joke for the year was that we lived on a flower field because my living room was at full capacity with dried florals and vases I had also been collecting over the year.

boho bridesmaids

B dressed her girls in satin and velvet dresses that matched the jewel-tone color scheme of the flowers. We are loving their Fame and Partners gowns!

I loved my dress from spell and the gypsy so so much that after I received it I had to order the reception dress I was planning to buy from them as well however the second dress I ordered was a gown style as well so I had the train of it altered which was this beautiful delicate lace I asked my seamstress to keep after the alterations I knew I wanted to add this extra fabric some where special in the wedding and I couldn’t thing of a more perfect way then adding it to my bridesmaids bouquets as a hanging fabric! Everyone loved the look of them little did they know it was an upcycle of my reception dress.

Our Musical Choices

Processional: I choose the instrumental string quartet of crazy for you by Madonna because that song was playing on his radio in his car when we had our very first kiss. My aisle song was the string quartet of sweet child of mine by Guns and Roses

Recessional: Our recessional was a song we always jammed out to when we were got together and still brings me back to those memories every time I hear it.

First Dance: Our first dance song was dance with me by Philip philips.

DIY Wedding Ceremony

Remember how we said B + A DIY-ed everything for the event?? That’s including pretty much everything you see in this rad ceremony setup! B shares:

My husband made the bar and the benches which were such a hit as well as the bases for the ceremony back drop. I took pride in doing all the silverware roll ups, the bouquets, boutonnières, aisle arrangements, each wine glass had a macrame charm for our guest to take home as well as a surplus of small amber vases for the guest to take as well. I am such a detailed person so to me even the tiniest of details makes all the difference and when I mean all the details, even the photo booth prop signs I made, all the calligraphy signs, the lounge set up, the aisle rugs, the menus, the menu signs, the macrame table runners, the table centerpieces, you name it me and my army of helpers aka my sisters and mom we did it!

wedding cake

For dessert we had combination of American classics like a vanilla wedding cake with a cinnamon roll top which my mom made. As well as the French traditional cake a pièce montée, we had Dragees brought all the way from my husbands home town in France a candy they are known for in the region. And it wouldn’t be a French wedding without macarons! And god were they not only beautiful but amazing our friend that works as a guard with us on the beach made them as our wedding gift for us and they were the perfect addition everyone was talking about them!

Sentimental value is priority to me in anything I put my heart into they were a lot of hidden messages or momentos in our wedding. The night was filled with so much love, laughter and magic with friends and family who came all the way from France, Columbia, and around the US. There’s that special feeling every bride experiences on her wedding day but I also just had such a proud moment to myself that all my hard work and preparation come together so perfectly.

Congratulations Britteny + Anthony! We bow down to your DIY wedding talent! We’re sure this will give other DIY brides major inspiration to tackle creative projects and make their dream day! Wishing you all the best! -The GWS Team
