Chic Jewel-Toned Wedding with a Ceremony in the Round

Planning

From the moment they were engaged, Charlotte + Matt agreed that every detail of their wedding had to have personal meaning. They planned a ceremony in the round at Brick in San Diego set below a ceiling of flowers by Layered Vintage — designed just so they could enjoy seeing all their guests’ faces as they said their vows! In the days leading up to the wedding, Charlotte (who manages a yoga studio) taught the bridal party a yoga class and Matt (who manages a winery) prepared a collection of his favorite wines for the rehearsal dinner. Every detail mattered. Here’s what Charlotte shared about their inspiration:

With a passion for design, we wanted a blank space to showcase every detail. We wanted our wedding to feel like HOME. The word we kept coming back to throughout the design process was “community” and we wanted guests to feel so comfortable as if they were sitting in our living room, sharing, and listening to stories about our bond. This is what led us to choose more large, plush lounges than tables to encourage conversation. We also didn’t want people to feel confined to their specific areas, but open to roam around and meet new people. We knew we wanted a lot of color, velvet, and flowers. It was important to us to have our guests feel seen, valued, and appreciated since we knew the wedding day would go by so fast.

And with design by Pow Wow Design + planning by Weddings by Lisa Nicole, the vision came to life! Each moment was captured beautifully by Let’s Frolic Together — let’s have a look!

Charlotte: I had been following Sarah Seven for years, but once we picked our venue, I didn’t think it would be the right fit…until I saw Wilde posted on their Instagram. I KNEW she was the one because she is elegant, feminine, and architectural. I immediately DM’d my mom the picture and within minutes she sent me the same picture. It was as if we both knew Wilde was “it.” I flew to San Diego from Boston to visit The Dress Theory and they let me try her on early. As they say, the rest is history.

Matt: I wanted my suiting to be classy, elegant, and edgy. I decided on a Ralph Lauren English Country look to match the design and feel of our wedding. It was important to me that the look be layered with different textures and also timeless. I dressed my suit with monk strap shoes and an antique gold pocket watch handed down by my great-grandfather.

A Ceiling of Florals

We love a little drama and after seeing our venue, it was a must to have a stunning floral installation hanging directly over us as we read our vows and later danced the night away.

C + M chose to walk down the aisle together to symbolize their unity going into their marriage. Their ceremony in the round was planned to make it feel more intimate and to emphasize the idea of community. They wrote their own vows and ended the ceremony with a Jewish “breaking of the glass” tradition!

We love a ceremony in the round set-up! Here’s another unique idea if you’re looking to try something a little different!

The most important part of our wedding was to have our 14-year-old Wheaten Terrier there. We flew Bleu (for the first time), across the country and she played a big role in our day. She walked down the aisle with her best human friend, was a part of our vows, walked back down the aisle with us after we said “I do,” and even had a custom dog pen designed for her for the reception. One of the best parts of the night was seeing her on lying on a rug next to our sweetheart table, watching us during our first dance. However, we think she got a little jealous!

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

With every detail you choose, ask yourself, “What is the significance of this to us? How does this represent our relationship?” And then hire incredible vendors that can help you bring your vision to life! And if at any point in the planning process it stops being fun, hit pause and revisit the conversation. Because of this, we had the best time planning together.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

When we finally left our reception at 3 AM. We were the very last two people to leave the venue (soooo “us”) and after we gathered all of our things, we walked towards the doors and before exiting, we turned around. As the silent night stilled and the remaining candles flickered in the dark, hand-in-hand we both smiled and reflected on the magic we created together. It was the same feeling of watching your favorite TV series finally come to a perfect ending, sad that it is over, but knowing you will remember every feeling each detail gave you.
