A Vibrant + Free-spirited Southwestern Wedding in New Mexico

Planning

Rustic Southwest Wedding

If you’re all about the details, then get ready!! This southwestern wedding is full of the most amazing eclectic decor inspired by New Mexico. With the help of For The Love Events, funky and free-spirited Madeleine + Chris designed a day that was all about folk-art vibes, peaceful energy, and authentic food and experiences. From real turquoise and sage-stick favors, to handmade tablecloths and candles from Oaxaca, Mexico, this celebration is a feast for the eyes!

Lilly Red Creative was there to capture these stunning images and share more with us about how the day’s inspiration came together:

The bride and her mother created a colorful southwestern summer scene for this wedding which took place in Tesuque, New Mexico at the bride’s parents house. Her parents purchased the 8 acres of pinon and sage land in Tesuque in 1994. The bride and her family would come to the land often to hike and explore, so she always dreamt of having her wedding here someday. This was a mother and daughter wedding team production from the table designs to the layout of the property to the band to the drinks and food served!

Ready to see this festive day? Let’s go!

It’s All in the Details

Penny Smiths printed these adorable invitation suites which were inspired by local New Mexican folk art and designed by the Groom’s mother. We love it when couples really get creative and give nods to a location that holds importance for them. Also, how stunning is the bride’s GemSetLove ring? Totally captures the vintage + wildflower style of the day!

Totally loving the fun patterns these girls are rocking! Genica Lee had them wedding ready with gorgeous hair and makeup!

Vera Wang Wedding Dress

Look at the detail on this Vera Wang gown!! So rad!

The bride’s dress was originally created with long sleeves, but she altered her dress and created an
off the shoulder sleeves with design help from her mother and staff at Vera Wang. She
wore Miu Miu shoes for the ceremony and changed into short studded cowboy boots from the
reception.

Absolutely loving these festive “Claribel” dresses by Ulla Johnson. The mix of colors and patterns is perfection!

Wild About Wildflowers

wildflower bouquet

M loves the colors and textures of wildflowers, so Renegade Floral made sure to include local New Mexican wildflowers in the designs. Her bouquet even had flowers from her parents’ Tesuque garden. The resulting color palette of marigold, orange, hot pink and teal is beyond fun!!

C was also bringing some major style to the wedding day with J.Crew attire, a custom grey suit from Suit Supply, and a turquoise bolo tie from Ship Rock Santa Fe. To tie her southwestern wedding look together, M wore a Turquoise Squash Blossom necklace.

The necklace is a vintage piece from the store La Boheme in Santa Fe. The necklace is estimated to be made in the late 1950s, crafted by the Zuni Tribe and is a rare Bisbee Turquoise. The turquoise rock is traditionally used for healing and blessing ceremonies.

M + C really kicked it up a notch with hand-gathered and handmade decor for the reception. The Groom’s mother event handmade 160 Milagro heart escort cards out of tinfoil. Milagro hearts are religious charms that offer help and protection! Such a cool addition!

M + C had the coolest collection of eclectic decor pieces to style their guest tables. Tile chargers, colorful goblets, terracotta pieces and potted cactus set the stage for a lively atmosphere. Colorado Party Rentals provided all tabletop rentals.

M + C’s sweetheart table is the epitome of southwestern wedding flair! Specialty rentals were provided by Rust Vintage Rentals.

The bridal party went to Oaxaca for the bride’s bachelorette party and were able to purchase beautiful handmade tablecloths & candles for the dinner tables and cocktail tables. The candles were all handmade in a town called Teotitlan del Valle. Each candle was unique, colorful and handmade by one of the best candle artists in Oaxaca. Most of the tablecloths were handmade “otomis” that were purchased in Oaxaca to give the tables another pop of beauty and color!

Maggie’s Wedding Cakes designed TWO gorgeous confections for M + C: a naked cake featuring local blooms and a small adobe casita groom’s cake. So cool!
